Gramsci - The Days in Prison

Feature film about Gramsci in prison. As a former member of parliament for the Communist Party, Antonio Gramsci was arrested in 1926 by the Mussolini regime. He stayed in prison until his death in 1937. The film was made in 1977 and is a good dramatization of Gramsci's writings.

We show a three-minute clip of Gramsci explaining his theory of social hegemony. He discusses with his fellow prisoners - communists like him - about the role intellectuals play for the revolution and on the question of who these intellectuals are.
